Hey there, friends! If you’re passionate about sleep medicine and want to make a difference, here’s your chance to get involved. We’re looking for enthusiastic members to step up and either nominate themselves or suggest others for positions on our Board of Directors.
Who Can Nominate?
To be eligible, nominees must be voting members in good standing. This means you need to have a full membership status—like Regular, Fellow, or Fellow Emeritus. If you’re unsure about your membership status, just reach out to check!
Current Openings
There’s at least one spot available on the Board for the 2025-2026 term. Board members serve three-year terms and can be re-elected for one additional consecutive term. Exciting, right?
What’s Expected of Board Members?
Board members play a crucial role in setting our organization’s direction, which includes:
- Participating in strategic planning
- Defining our mission, vision, and core values
- Approving key operational and budgetary plans
Additionally, they ensure we have the resources we need to thrive, oversee financial management, and evaluate our programs and services effectively. It’s a big responsibility, but also a rewarding one!
Time Commitment
Being on the Board isn’t just a title; it comes with a significant time commitment. You’ll need to attend quarterly meetings that last 2-3 days, plus a half-day meeting at the annual SLEEP conference each June. You’ll also be expected to review tons of materials—often over 300 pages—before meetings.
Skills We’re Looking For
This year, the Leadership Development Committee is particularly interested in nominees with expertise in areas like payor and reimbursement policies, technology innovation, and business acumen.
How to Apply
Before you dive in, take a moment to review the conflict of interest policy. Then, complete the application for the Board of Directors and Leadership Development Committee by December 9, 2024.
Finalist Interviews
If you’re selected as a finalist, be prepared for interviews on February 4, 2025, from 5-8 pm CT.
Next Steps
After the Leadership Development Committee evaluates all applications, they’ll create a slate of candidates to present to the membership for voting. You’ll find out the results in April, and new appointees will start their terms at the SLEEP 2025 event.
